DigiDay in the Ukraine – “Digitalisation and Work"

This meeting was marked by a lively discussion between trade unionists, NGOs, platform workers (mainly bicycle messengers and digital workers in the field of "design"), representatives from the Ukrainian ministries as well as specialists on the challenges of digitalisation for workers as well as its effects on taxation.

Live panel discussions on site in Kiev on various topics gave the participants a good overview of the challenges facing their country.

The focus was on the legal aspects of employment in the gig economy, the digitalisation of work and the economic development of the country and how trade unions can help digital workers, who very often are not union members. The general consensus among the participants was to regulate and improve the working conditions of platform workers so that they can also become “contributors” to the Ukrainian economy. Workers also stressed the need to evaluate ways and means of getting large companies to tax their profits and thus contribute their share to the state budget.

Interpretation was provided into English and made it possible for participants from the other project countries to follow the discussion.
